What is RPL?
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is an assessment of the skills and knowledge you have gained outside the formal education and training system.
You may have developed these skills and knowledge through:
- work experience
- voluntary work
- school experience
- life experience.
Benefit to you?
Where you are granted RPL for one or more units of competency, the qualification price is adjusted and a new student fee is determined. This means you:
- Save on study time
- Pay less fees
- Can prepare for a career change or promotion faster
- Improve your job security by having additional skills that are recognised.
In NSW there is a seamless transition from Certificate III level qualifications, with only 9 further units to complete to gain your Certificate IV in Leisure & Health. This could be further reduced with RPL.
Is it the same qualification?
Yes, receiving RPL for some of your units does not impact the qualification, it is no different to any other. It is still a fully-recognised qualification that you can complete in less time, and at a lower cost.
What is the cost?
This depends on the number of units you need to complete in your Certificate IV course and your situation.
There are 17 units in the Certificate IV course. However, if you have a Certificate III in Individual Support you may receive 8 units of credit.
The Fee* for the remaining 9 units in NSW is:
$240 on a NSW concession.
$1250 if not eligible for a NSW concession.
$2000 if not eligible for Smart and Skilled funding support.
